Kawambwa, March 9, 2026 – Kawambwa District marked International Women’s Day with a powerful call for equal rights, justice, and concrete action to uplift all women and girls in the district, drawing commitments from local leaders to tackle barriers, and educational gaps.
Speaking on behalf of the women during the vibrant celebrations, Ms. Pule Katongo stated that women are everyday champions, ensuring rights, justice, and action for all women and girls through their work across health, infrastructure, education, and many other sectors.
The Guest of honour, Kawambwa District Commissioner Mr. Godfrey Chilambwe, praised the women’s leadership and reaffirmed government support for their agenda.
“International Women’s Day celebrates progress, but also challenges us to do more,” Mr Chilambwe said. “In Kawambwa, we commit to partnering with you boost girls’ education, and grow women-led businesses.”
He also noted ongoing initiatives like CDF empowerment loans and grants, scholarships for girls, and entrepreneurship programs.
The colorful event included cultural performances, and ended with a unified resolve to sustain momentum beyond March 8.
