Kawambwa Town Council

Kawambwa Town Council is located in Kawambwa District of Luapula province. It is one of the Twelve Districts of Luapula Province of Zambia. It is located on the edge of the northern Zambian plateau above the Luapula valley at an altitude of 1300m. Kawambwa District situated 9 degrees South and 29 degrees East and shares its boundaries with Nchelenge in the north-west, Mwansabombwe in the west, Mporokoso in the north-east, Luwingu in the East, Lupososhi, Chipili and Mwense in the south. The District is about 235 Km from the Provincial headquarters Mansa and 1,230 km from Capital City Lusaka.

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Kawambwa District had a population of 89, 884, distributed into 47, 951 and 41, 933 for Kawambwa central and Pambashe constituencies respectively in 2010, however, with an annual growth rate of 2.33% the population grew to 126, 057 in 2022 distributed into 67, 930 and 58, 128 for Kawambwa Central and Pambashe respectively as reported by Zamstats. This figure represents 15% of the total population of Luapula Province, which stands at 784,613.  Kawambwa has a population growth rate of 2.0 % per annum which is the lowest in the province after Mwense which is 2.2%, Milenge is at 3.1%, Samfya and Mansa are at 3.3%, Nchelenge is at 4.6% and the highest growth rate being in Chiengi at 5.8%.
