Kawambwa is a district in Luapula Province, Zambia.It shares borders with several districts and is approximately 235 km from Mansa and 1,230 km from Lusaka. The district is divided into two constituencies (Pambashe and Kawambwa) and 18 wards, each represented by elected councillors.
To Improve the quality of life of the people of Kawambwa through the development of a sustainable economic environment and provision of equitable service in a transparent and accountable manner by 2030 through stakeholder engagement and involvement.
To have a diversified, prosperous and industrious Kawambwa district that provides appropriate infrastructure, goods and services to all members of the community.
To create an enabling environment where agriculture, tourism, mining and infrastructure development can thrive in a well coordinated and sustainable manner in the district.

Kawambwa Tea is one of Zambia’s main tea producers, located in Kawambwa District. It produces tea for local use and export, provides hundreds of jobs, and continues to grow as a key agricultural industry in the region

Major natural attractions include Nthumba Chushi Falls and Lumangwe Falls, both popular with visitors for their scenic beauty.

The Sunbird Bioenergy Kawambwa project is a major agricultural and energy initiative in Zambia. Its primary goal is to cultivate cassava and process it into bioethanol fuel, which is blended with gasoline to create a cleaner-burning alternative for the local market.The project operates by partnering with local small-scale farmers through an outgrower scheme, providing them with a stable income and supporting rural development

The Chishinga Malaila Ceremony is an annual cultural festival of the Chishinga people in Kawambwa District, Luapula Province, Zambia. Held under Senior Chief Mushota around September or October, it features traditional dances, songs, and rituals that honour ancestors and reinforce loyalty to the chief. The event also unites the community, promotes cultural identity, and provides a forum for discussing local development.

Kawambwa offers basic but comfortable accommodation through small hotels, guesthouses, and lodges that mainly serve business travelers, government workers, and tourists visiting nearby attractions. Facilities usually include standard rooms, essential amenities, and simple dining options, though luxury choices are limited. Bookings can be made on arrival or via regional platforms, but visitors should confirm availability in advance during peak periods such as holidays or major local ceremonies
